Plastic is now present in almost every aspect of our lives: we use about 20 times more plastic than 50 years ago. This has become a significant environmental issue, but fortunately, there are companies that have taken this matter to heart and are committed to creating alternative products, made for example from plastic bottles or old fishing nets. Let's see how this is possible:
Plastic bottles are collected from the oceans and go through a series of cleaning and grinding stages to obtain plastic flakes, which are then mechanically processed into rough polyester fibers. These fibers are further manipulated to achieve the best final quality. The resulting material, called PET, is used to make items that give a second life to plastic, optimizing its durability and reducing waste. Creating shoes from recycled PET made from plastic bottles not only helps keep our planet clean but also promotes significant resource savings in terms of water consumption, energy, and pollution.
Abandoned fishing nets are the primary killers of the seas, as they are carried by currents, trapping not only fish, turtles, marine mammals, and birds, but also destroying delicate coral reefs, damaging entire ecosystems. These nets can also be reused, with significant water, energy, and CO2 emission savings, not to mention the enormous environmental benefit that collecting these nets would bring.
The use of these materials by companies that care about recycling has given rise to products that combine design with environmental awareness, resulting in useful and sustainable products that require limited resource consumption and are environmentally friendly.
